ELSTEM Staff and Instructors

Catherine Kim, Ph.D. (catherinekim@pacificu.edu)

Dr. Kim is the ELSTEM Program Director and Principal Investigator.  She oversees the entire ELSTEM program and works with the external program evaluator, Education Northwest, to conduct program evaluations.  She also takes a lead role in research and development of the ELSTEM curriculum.

Karren Timmermans, Ph. D. (kmtimm@pacificu.edu)

Dr. Timmermans is the Inservice ELSTEM Program Coordinator.  She is the main contact and advisor for the inservice ELSTEM program participants.  She also works with the ELSTEM program director in research and development of the inservice ELSTEM curriculum, and coordinates the inservice participants’ practica experiences.

Kevin Carr, Ph.D. (kcarr@pacificu.edu)

Dr. Carr is the Preservice ELSTEM Program Coordinator.  He directs the recruitment of pre-service ELSTEM participants in conjunction with the Noyce recruitment, and coordinates the preservice teacher Woodburn STEM MAT program in which the preservice ELSTEM participants are trained.  He oversees research and development of the preservice STEM/ESOL coursework and practica experiences.

Santos (Sandy) Gutierrez, Ph.D. (guti3918@pacificu.edu)

Dr. Gutierrez is an instructor in the pre- and inservice ELSTEM program.  She teaches courses on educational linguistics and cultural diversity.

Mr. Jon Pope (pope7996@pacificu.edu)

Mr. Pope is an instructor in the preservice ELSTEM program.  He teaches courses on STEM ESOL methods.

Dr. John Lockhart (lockhart@pacificu.edu)

Dr. Lockhart is Assistant Professor of Education and teaches courses on cultural diversity in the preservice ELSTEM program.

Dr. Donna Phillips (dphillips@pacificu.edu)

Dr. Phillips is Professor of Education and teaches courses on content literacy in the preservice ELSTEM program.

Mr. Doug Grant (dgrant@woodburnsd.org)

Mr. Grant is an instructor in the preservice ELSTEM program.  He teaches courses on STEM and mathematics methods.
